*** DIRECT LINK TO SHOW ***

We've all been there ... sitting in the car, waiting for someone to finish shopping so we could go home ... I mean, after we tried the hold our breath in the store until we turn blue and throw a tantrum thing because we were missing something on TV ... as many of us learned the hard way, you can only do that once before you realize after the fact that your HMO won't cover the ambulance expenses as a legitimate emergency, even if it was season finale week.

SEGMENT ONE:
Wal-Mart vs. Apple: Cupertino taketh away thou DVDs, but also giveth backeth to the bottometh lineth.

SEGMENT TWO:
Podzinger minute: Lindsay Lohan, Kiera Knightly and Lynne Cheney in a lesbian three-way, among other stream-of-consciousness things.

PODSAFE MUSIC: Howard Jones, "Building Your Own Future."

SEGMENT THREE:
Part One of my interview on Cotolo Chronicles, the first and still best trendsetter in online alternative content.

SPECIAL 'WHAT WAS THAT!? DID YOU FEEL THAT!?' HAWAII QUAKE EDITION
*COMMENT LINE: 206-333-1648*

*** DIRECT LINK TO SHOW ***

Just a quick update from the Digital Slob in Waikiki post quakes, from his still standing shoebox in paradise. Sunday morning Hawaii was hit with two separate earthquakes, a 6.7 and a 6.0, within minutes of each other. Thankfully there was no tsunami ... if there was, I'd be typing this under water.

For more info on the quake check out starbulletin.com

EXPO EXPOS FACTO WEEK

*** DIRECT LINK TO SHOW ***

Many stories have already been told about the 2006 Podcast and Portable Media Expo ... it was in late September, after all ... many say that train has left the station ... but my hangover has just now left me, so it's time to review:

Highlights include:

1) My wife, Olga, the publicity machine
2) Meeting cool people
3) My panel discussion
4) Two orders of room service buttermilk pancakes that I didn't have to pay for.
5) The Parties

Lowlights include:

1) My wife taking heat from Jason Calacanis
2) Leo LaPorte's keynote
3) The unfortunately still too impenetrable podcast bubble.

Dvorak surprised Hawaii has computers

After a long day of conk blowing and virgin sacrificing up on the volcano, I came across this post from noted tech columnist John C. Dvorak after he heard I'd compared him in a column to Stattler, the famous Muppet curmudgeon who heckled acts from the balcony with his partner-in-crime Waldorf:

"This takes the cake for off-handed compliment/insults. Curt 'Digital Slob' Brandao writing in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin says I look like the Muppet Show character Stattler. I was shocked when I read this. I had no idea they used computers in Hawaii."

A nice little jab back from Dvorak, since whatever admiration I have for him -- considerable, he knows more tech stuff than I do and can bore normal people at 10 times my top speed -- was probably deeply cloaked in my apt comparison -- but come on, you don't have to go after the entire Aloha State ;-). We've got quite a tech industry here, actually.

Truth is, I am a Dvorak fan. Here's the link to what I had to say about his "Cranky Geeks" video podcast. It's generally positive, I think, though, admittedly, something gets lost when it's translated from its original hula.

Yes, John, Hawaii has computers -- it's amazing what you can make out of coconuts.

Mmmmm ... publicity

Seems a comment AOL exec Jason Calacanis made to my wife/supermodel/digitalslobpod cohost/digitalslobpod spokesperson Olga Timakova at the Podcast and Portable Media Expo has caused many in the blogosphere to rise up to defend her honor ... I would have led that fight, of course, but we've been sleeping off the expo in a Vegas hotel, and I didn't want to pay for Net access until now b/c I wanted to save my resources for blackjack ... as it turns out, there was no point, however.

Apparently, as I've just learned, when I was working the other side of the expo hall in Ontario, Calif., last weekend, he told my wife "You're podcasting? Let me give you some good advice, no one wants to hear you talk." Olga didn't tell me about it, but that was no surprise ... she usually spares me from looking at the vast, cavernous inventory of comments she gets from men because it's been known to give me vertigo.

Seems Valleywag has a poll up
, asking who you'd rather listen to talk ... Jason or Olga ... right now, Olga's ahead w/ 93 percent of the vote ... I think the campaign poster helps.

Webpronews.com reporter Jason Lee Miller also bravely refuted Calacanis' claims in a story he posted today about us ... maintaining that Olga has a wonderful speaking voice, especially when near a Marriot hotel pool party, although he did, technically, also call her a liar.

Chris Heuer
, the expo attendee and blogger who took the photo above, said in his estimation Jason wasn't being sexist, but simply commenting on the quality of Olga's voice ... as for Olga? Her direct quote ... "Listen to digitalslobpod, and judge for yourself."

In the midst of a successful, albeit difficult to Google, 12-year professional career as a newsroom manager for a slew of daily newspapers, Curt decided it was time to siphon back some of the creative spotlight, and "wow" readers with his deft improvisational typing. "Digital Slob" debuted in 2002.
